Daihatsu is probably the most common generator prime mover afloat. These engines run for years on modest maintenance, which means the enquiry usually arrives when something has actually failed, and the clock is already running.
A parts list drawn up at the last minute always misses the consumables.

The families in service
- DK series — 6DK-20, 6DK-28 and related, widely used for generator sets.
- DC series — larger auxiliary and some propulsion applications.
- DL series — older units, increasingly reliant on equivalents and remaining stock.
For the wider auxiliary picture see auxiliary engine parts.
Wear parts that drive the spares list
The comparison, in one table:
| System | Routine items | Interval driver |
|---|---|---|
| Cylinder unit | Liners, rings, head gaskets, valve grind parts | Running hours and measurement |
| Fuel injection | Nozzles, injectors, feed pump parts | Running hours, exhaust temperature deviation |
| Cooling | Impellers, thermostats, anodes, cooler bundle | Running hours and fouling |
| Lubrication | Filter elements, pump internals | Running hours, oil analysis |
| Turbocharging | Nozzle ring, bearings, filters | Inspection at overhaul |
The serial number, again
Daihatsu built the same model over long periods with revisions to cylinder heads, pistons and injection equipment. Two 6DK-20 engines from different years may not share the same head gasket. The serial number is what lets a supplier check the correct revision rather than quoting the most common one.
Where equivalents are safe
Filters, gaskets, seals and impellers are routinely supplied as equivalents without risk, provided the material specification matches. Injection nozzles and piston rings should be bought to the maker’s specification, because the spray pattern and ring profile directly affect combustion and wear.
What to send
- Model and serial number of the engine and of the generator if relevant
- Part number, or a photo of the nameplate on the part
- Quantity per engine and number of engines
- Required date and destination port
- Certificate requirement
Consolidating a full auxiliary engine service list into one enquiry reduces freight and paperwork — see how sourcing works.
In short: Experience says: order the consumables with the parts, not after them, and most of the rest is common sense.

Questions from the engine room
Are Daihatsu auxiliary engine parts readily available?
Yes for current DK and DC series through the maker network and equivalent manufacturers. Older DL series parts are increasingly sourced from remaining stock or made to drawing.
Can I use equivalent parts in a Daihatsu generator engine?
For filters, gaskets, seals and impellers, yes. For injection nozzles and piston rings, buy to the maker’s specification, because geometry and material directly affect combustion and wear.
How often should auxiliary engine injectors be serviced?
On the maker’s running-hour interval, typically at each scheduled service, or earlier when exhaust temperature deviation or smoke appears.
